The perfect Agadir itinerary: 3 and 5 days#
Agadir is the sort of place that can fill a week or just a long weekend, depending on how you pace it. The trick is to balance the city with the coast and the mountains around it, and to leave room to do nothing at all.
Here are two itineraries — one for three days, one for five — that mix the highlights with genuine downtime.
The 3-day itinerary#
Day 1 — The city. Start with the beach and the promenade in the morning, while it is still cool. After lunch, explore Souk El Had (our Souk El Had guide has the details), then head up to the kasbah or take the cable car for sunset over the bay. Dinner at the marina.
Day 2 — Coast and surf. Spend the day on the coast. Travel up to Taghazout for the surf village and a long lunch, or take a boat trip from Agadir to see the bay from the water. If you want the classic excursion, go to Paradise Valley for the rock pools and palms.
Day 3 — Nature or culture. Choose one deeper trip: the Souss-Massa National Park for birds and dunes, or the walled town of Taroudant — sometimes called "little Marrakech" — inland on the plain. Round it off with a relaxed evening and, if it is Friday, couscous.
Add two more days (the 5-day version)#
Day 4 — A full day trip. Take the longer journey to Essaouira, the wind-battered coastal city with its ramparts and gulls, or head into the Atlas Mountains for Berber villages, valleys and a walk. Both make a memorable full day.
Day 5 — The slow day. After several days on the move, keep this one loose. A morning swim, an afternoon in the medina and the Bird Valley, a spa or hammam, and a final sunset. This is the day people remember as the holiday.
Tips for making it work#
- Front-load the active days and keep the last day free. Pace beats coverage.
- Book day trips in advance in high season; they fill up.
- Do outdoor things early or late. Midday is for the pool, a siesta or a long lunch.
- One base, not many. Staying in one comfortable place and travelling out from it saves hours and stress. See our apartments in Agadir for a calm, central option.
- Mix it up. Beach, market, mountain and coast each give you a different Agadir.
Getting around#
Most of the city sights are close together and easy by taxi, while the day trips need a car, a driver or a guided tour. We can arrange transfers and drivers for any of the trips above, so your only job is to enjoy them.
Whether you have three days or five, Agadir's real appeal is its unhurried rhythm. Plan the big pieces, then let the rest of the day happen. For more ideas, see our Agadir activities page.
