Agadir with kids: a family-friendly guide#
Agadir is one of the easiest places in Morocco to travel with children. The weather is mild for most of the year, the beach is wide and calm-ish, the city is compact, and there is a steady supply of the things children actually enjoy: animals, cable cars, boats, ice cream and a lot of open sand.
Here is how to plan a family trip, and what to do with kids of different ages.
The beach#
Start with the obvious. Agadir's main beach is long, sandy and gently shelving, which makes it good for younger children. Swim near the lifeguarded sections, keep an eye on the Atlantic waves (they can be stronger than they look), and set up early if you want a good spot in high season.
The promenade behind the beach is flat and traffic-free in stretches — ideal for a stroller, a scooter or a slow evening stroll.
The cable car and the kasbah#
The telepherique up to Agadir Oufella is a genuine highlight for children: a ride above the city to the old kasbah, with views over the whole bay. It turns a history stop into an adventure, and the walk around the ruins at the top is short and manageable.
Animals and green space#
- Vallée des Oiseaux (Bird Valley) — a leafy park in the centre of town with flamingos, peacocks and parrots. It is cheap, easy and a good low-energy hour.
- Crocoparc. A landscaped park built around Nile crocodiles, with botanical gardens and viewing areas. Children tend to remember this one.
- Souss-Massa National Park. For nature-loving families, this coastal park is home to flamingos and rare ibis.
Boats and the marina#
A boat trip is a reliable hit. A short coastal cruise, a glass-bottom boat or a dolphin-watching trip gives children a sense of adventure without a long journey, and the marina area is a pleasant place to end the day with an ice cream while the boats light up.
Practical tips for families in Agadir#
- Choose your base carefully. A self-catering apartment with a kitchen and separate bedrooms makes family life far easier than a single hotel room — and lets you keep to your own routines.
- Watch the midday sun. Plan outdoor activities for the morning and late afternoon, and keep the hottest hours for the pool, lunch or a siesta.
- Carry cash and water. Small notes for taxis and snacks, and plenty of bottled water.
- Agree taxi prices first. In the city, most trips are short and inexpensive, but it is worth confirming the price before you set off.
- Book a transfer. Arriving with tired children after a flight is much easier with a private transfer waiting for you than with a taxi queue.
A simple family itinerary#
Spend the morning at the beach or Crocoparc, rest through the heat of the day, then take the cable car up to the kasbah in the late afternoon for the view and the sunset. Finish with dinner near the marina. It is a gentle, unhurried day — and exactly what Agadir does best.
